老顾头（黄宗洛 饰）是个离休的八路军老战士，每日在家含儿弄孙、颐养天年。偶然间，他得知自己战争年代的旧情人陈云花（秦臻 饰）仍活在世上，并热心着公益事业，不由感慨万分。有心和儿子顾小舟（王学圻 饰）倾诉，无奈他天天忙到脚打后脑勺，根本无暇顾及。战争岁月的点点滴滴激发起老顾头对往事的追忆，他不辞而别，去寻访当年的亲人。他的出走打乱了一家原有的平静生活，四处找寻无果，小舟判断父亲去了故乡沂蒙山，随即请假追寻。不辞辛苦来到沂蒙山的老顾头发现，云花已于去年离世，他深感悲痛。在云花的墓前，小舟看到了白发苍苍的父亲...... 本片于1987年获苏联第十届亚非拉电影节银奖。1989年意大利第十二届萨尔索影视节评委会特别奖。An elderly veteran of WWII living in peaceful retirement with his son and the latter's family becomes increasingly lost in wartime memories and reminiscences, much to his son's consternation. One day, an item the old man reads in a magazine prompts him to go off unannounced on a war-related quest. The son goes searching for his father, and in doing so reaches a greater understanding of both the old man and the generation he represents.
