上世纪90年代末东北爆发大规模下岗潮，女性失业尤为严重。很多女人听说当法国保姆能赚钱，便不惜背上巨债出国。到巴黎后发现求生无路，只好去“站街”。比利时导演奥利维耶偶然遇到她们，进行了长期调查，并找到王小帅任监制，以此拍摄出电影《下海》。Thirtysomething Chinese-born Lina borrows money to move to Paris to save up money to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams, leaving behind her husband and son in Dong Bei province. But once in Europe, nothing goes as planned, and she is forced into a line of work she never would have imagined. When her flighty sister-in-law shows up on her doorstep, Lina becomes inevitably tangled in her own web of lies.
